preschool tiny dancers programme (ages 2.5-4 years)
The perfect starting point for any tiny dancer. In this class, we teach the basic principles of dance with a focus on improving fundamental movement patterns such as body awareness, coordination, and balance, whilst also allowing space for freedom of movement, musicality, and creative expression. Children will learn basic ballet and jazz dance steps to work towards higher levels of dance. We encourage children to create and dance independently and within a team. As an optional extra, we work towards a short and sweet dance piece to perform at the end of the year for friends and family. This class runs for 30 minutes. Boys and girls welcome and no uniform (except ballet shoes) required.
Classical Ballet (Entry Level - Advanced)
Precise, controlled, articulate and beautiful to watch - ballet has been a part of society and culture since the 19th century, and is still loved and adored by many in 21st century. Characterised by light, graceful movement, classical ballet is one of the hardest yet most rewarding styles of dance to perfect. At Parnell School of Dance, our philosophy focuses heavily on a combination of classical technique and emotive creative expression using the ATOD classical ballet syllabus. The syllabus was upgraded and designed in 2002 by the Classical Ballet Core Committee. This Committee included well known Ballet Teachers and Examiners, including Graduates of The Australian Ballet School. Musical accompaniment is by leading pianist Gary Dionysius. Gary is Company Pianist for The Queensland Ballet.
Jazz (entry level - intermediate)
Though highly technical, jazz is a fun, upbeat and sassy style of dance often seen in pop music videos, music concerts, stage shows and broadway. At Parnell School of Dance we use the ATOD Jazz syllabus. “The Syllabus was created by the Jazz Moves Core Committee with the first 9 levels released in 2007. The Core Committee included Paul Malek, founder and artistic director of ‘Collaboration – The Project’. Paul is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, with extensive training in various genres of dance. His professional career has seen him travel the world as a performer, dance captain or rehearsal director for such companies as Disney, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Jean-Ann Ryan Productions and P&O Cruises.” (ATOD Website).
ADULT BALLET (OPEN/BEGINNERS)
We believe dance is for everyone which is why we are re-introducing our adult ballet class. This class is designed for those who always dreamed of starting ballet lessons but never got around to it, or those who danced in their youth who wish to return to the barre. During the 60 minute class, we will work through a warm-up, barre work, centre work, and will finish class with a well deserved stretch. As our studio owner is also a qualified pilates instructor, she is able to modify and adapt certain exercises for those who have injury.
barre (OPEN/BEGINNERS)
Our signature barre class is a high energy, challenging workout class designed to specifically target arms, legs, and core to strengthen and lengthen the body. Powered by an upbeat playlist, this class uses our signature isometric movement patterns with the support of the barre (and a few props) to take you through a flow of high-powered sequences that will leave you feeling strong, confident, and energised. You will be guided through each position, and will use props to help build awareness of body movements and technique before finishing class with some gentle stretching. Catie is qualified to teach both pre and postnatal women, and can safely modify the class sequence for you.
